The Pixies (I always hate calling the Pixies just Pixies, I'm more comfortable utilizing the "the") are out with a new song supporting their forthcoming new album, the Night the Zombies Came which will be released during - yup, you guessed it - October 2024 (10/25/24) on BMG. You may pre-order the album if you so choose to do so at this link.
"Chicken" is...well, you know...feeling as though you're running around like a chicken without its head on. The Pixies feel we've grown accustomed to is there, bass is strong and secure with the band's new member, Emma Richardson. The chorus flows in and out with tidal breathlessness; it's just like Black Francis to punctuate the beauty with mournful anxiety.
Kim Deal has also released her first single that is credited to her name, Kim Deal (which is her name) and hopefully, there's more such releases on the way. Whether the Pixies and Kim Deal knew it or not (my money is on "or not") both songs compliment one another appropriately; there's the usual beachy - but, not necessarily breezy - darkness that we've come to expect from those ground-breaking alt-rockers.
Why choose sides? Enjoy them both and pretend they everyone was still nicely playing together in the sandbox.
