There's good mojo, bad mojo, and - of course - there's always Tom Petty's, Mojo
On Oct. 20th, the world will see a reissue of Petty's blues-based album from 2010. On Mojo and the Extra Mojo Version, listeners will hear two unreleased tracks on the Warner Records release. Of course, it will come out on Tom Petty's birthday. He was a Libra, of course.
Mojo explores Petty's love for the blues that he often championed on his "Buried Treasure" radio program. "Help Me" - a Sonny Boy Williamson II cover - is the first unreleased track to be featured while "Master of Love" is the second. These two outtakes will be featured on the digital release, but unfortunately they will not be included on the the new vinyl version which is a limited-edition translucent ruby red double vinyl LP pressing. The digital releases will include Dolby Atmos and Spatial formats.
The album was record live at the band's rehearsal space known as, "The Clubhouse" in Los Angeles, California. Upon its initial release the album debuted at #2 on the Billboard Top 200 chart. Speaking about the album, Petty said, "With this album, I want to show other people what I hear with the band. Mojo is where the band lives when it’s playing for itself.” A short film about the making of the album was directed by Sam Jones and can be found at this link.
