Goodbye, Dolly

Oh, no. Not Dolly!

By every account I’ve ever heard, Dolly Parton wasn’t just a remarkable musician and songwriter. She was also one of those rare people who seemed to carry a special kind of energy with her. Funny, generous, warm and unmistakably herself.

You can actually see a little of that in the record store. Dolly is one of those artists whose records make people’s faces light up. I love having her albums in the bins.

Not long after we opened, someone called the shop and asked, “Can you put aside all of your Dolly Parton records? I’m coming to buy them in 30 minutes.”

Yes, ma’am. You got it.

A tremendous songwriter, a singular American pop-culture figure and, apparently, a pretty wonderful human being, too. She’ll be very missed.
