It's possible that you first heard about this from my interview with Catharine Vericolli at The Tracking Angle, but here it is...the official announcement you Funkadelic fans have been waiting for!
Org Music and Westbound Records have announced a deluxe reissue of Funkadelic, the band's groundbreaking 1970 debut album, arriving August 29. This marks the first in a series of high-quality reissues celebrating Westbound’s most influential recordings, with additional titles like Free Your Mind…, Maggot Brain, and more expected soon. Pre-order available at this link.

The new pressing was mastered at 45RPM directly from the original tapes by Dave Gardner and restored by Catherine Vericolli at 54 Sound Studios in Michigan. The double LP, pressed at Furnace Record Pressing and housed in a Stoughton tip-on gatefold jacket, offers the most sonically accurate version of the album to date. A single LP edition (cut from hi-res digital transfers), along with CD, cassette, and digital formats, will also be available.

Released amid social unrest and musical upheaval, Funkadelic fused psychedelic rock, gospel, blues, and soul into a raw, genre-defying sound. With Eddie Hazel’s searing guitar work, surrealist lyrics, and hypnotic grooves, the album helped launch a radical new chapter in music and - of course - its influence still echoes today.
Expect the following variants:
Rough Trade Exclusive: Black-in-Yellow LP
Zia Records Exclusive: Tri-Color Splatter LP
Sea Sick Records & Plaid Room Records Exclusive: Split Green/Blue with Splatter LP
