Mr. Ambrogio used to opine — with maximum volume and diction — that it’s unacceptable to celebrate death anniversaries. As difficult as he could be - and as clouded as my head was with other things at the time - while I twisted and spun and squirmed around in freshman Spanish (which I would ultimately flunk) I always internally debated that he was right on the money.
Like, hey man, you’ve got a whole birthday, so why not celebrate that miracle instead of what is possibly the worst day in one’s life? And so, in Mr. Ambrogio’s honor, I avoided memorializing JL a few days ago on the anniversary of his assassination, but I’m certainly free to do so now.
Aprendemos cosas cuando menos las esperamos. Amirite?
